Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • Author has included his ORCID registration in his user profile.

  • Do not insert titles in uppercase: both in the text file and in the metadata. Insert the titles and abstracts also in English, in the metadata area.
    Enter the ORCID data in the contributors item.
  • Follows the standard policy for articles, reviews and interviews, as well as references (sources and bibliography).

About the publication process

All manuscripts submitted to Revista Sertão História will follow the same publication process. Once submitted to our online system, the manuscript will be analyzed by the editor for its suitability to the scope and mission of the journal and compliance with the technical standards. Articles that do not comply strictly with the rules will be rejected.

If the submitted article meets these requirements, the blind evaluation phase will begin, in which the work will be submitted for analysis by two evaluators from the Editorial Advisory Board or an ad-hoc guest.

The submission of original manuscripts implies the assignment of copyright and publication rights to Revista Sertão História. All published texts are the sole responsibility of their authors.

Authors must provide their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) number when submitting their article.

Articles, reviews, transcripts and interviews must comply with all the journal's rules, as specified in the “Manuscript configuration” section.

Peer review process
The originals submitted are evaluated using the double-blind peer review system. They must therefore be sent without any identification of the authors;

The Editorial Committee carries out an initial screening to ensure complete compliance with the Publication Rules;

Article proposals will be sent to two (2) referees and Reviews and Transcriptions will be sent to one (1) referee. If there are differences between the reviewers, a third reviewer will be consulted.

When filling in the metadata, please do NOT use capital letters for titles.

Standard section policy:

I - Articles - Dossiers or free themes

Manuscripts must not be labeled on the front page, in the text or in the notes, in order to guarantee a blind evaluation.

Tip: Check the file information in “Inspect Document”. In the file information section, remove the authorship, so that the reviewer does not identify the evaluator. Click on Information, click on “Check for problems”, click on “Inspect documents”, click on “remove all” in the Document Properties and Personal Information section.

Do NOT insert titles in capital letters.

All contributions must use the Microsoft Word text editor or compatible editors (Verdana, type 12 and space 1.5).

Articles must have (in the body of the text):

- between 35,000 and 55,000 characters (including spaces);

- title, abstract and three keywords in Portuguese; title, abstract and three keywords in English;

- footnotes only for supplementary information, except in the case of sources, which require more space for identification (check the rule for sources below); even if the source is inserted in a footnote, it must appear in the references.

- References (Sources and Bibliography, in that order).

The abstract in the body of the text should not exceed 1000 characters (including spaces);

(This is not the METADATA summary, which has a different layout, according to the information in the METADATA section).

- bibliographic citations in the body of the text, notes and final bibliography must comply with ABNT standards (as shown below).

Short quotations (up to 3 lines): Must be inserted in the text, between quotation marks.

Transcriptions of text longer than three lines should be highlighted with a 4cm indentation from the left margin, in character size 11, without quotation marks and with single spacing between lines.

The graphic elements used must be indicated in the body of the text and must be centered. Titles must be numbered in Arabic numerals, in Verdana font, size 11, justified in bold and single-spaced. The font and arrangement of the graphic elements must be centered just below them, in Verdana font, size 10, justified and single-spaced. After each graphic element, there must be a space of one line, single-spaced.

On critical reviews:

Critical reviews should seek to stimulate, with the publication of the review, an academic dialog with the historiography pertinent to the topic, promote new scores and avoid merely summarizing the work. They should stick to national or foreign books published in the last three years.

Review authors should avoid any situation that could be characterized as a “conflict of interest”.

Reviews should be

between 10,000 and 15,000 characters (including spaces);

a title different from the title of the book reviewed;

an abstract (maximum 300 characters including spaces) in Portuguese and English;

three keywords in Portuguese and English.

Bibliographical references

Same rules as for articles.

Interviews

About the publication process

All manuscripts submitted to Revista Sertão História will follow the same publication process. Once submitted to our online system, the manuscript will be analyzed by the editor for its suitability to the scope and mission of the journal and compliance with technical standards.

About the interviews:

between 15,000 and 55,000 characters (including spaces);

title in Portuguese and English;

abstract (max. 500 characters including spaces) in Portuguese and English;

three keywords in Portuguese and English.

Bibliographical references

The same rules as for articles.

The results of the evaluation process may be:

ACCEPT, without necessary modifications, or with suggestions for non-mandatory modifications.
ACCEPT, with mandatory corrections/Resubmit for evaluation: this option does not imply the return of the new version of the text to the reviewer; the Editorial Board will evaluate whether the corrections were made satisfactorily;
REFUSED: no appeal will be accepted.

b) Opinion 1 - Accepted; Opinion 2 - Rejected; Opinion 3 - Accepted; Final Decision: Accepted.

f) Opinion 1 - Rejected; Opinion 2 - Mandatory Corrections - with evaluation by the editorial committee after the correction; Opinion 3 - Mandatory Corrections - with evaluation by the editorial committee after the correction; Final Decision: Accepted after verification by the editorial committee.

If the submitted article meets these requirements, the blind review phase will begin, in which the papers will be submitted for analysis by two ad-hoc guest reviewers.

Standard section policy

Manuscripts cannot have identification on the home page, in the text and in the notes, to ensure blind evaluation.

All contributions must use the Microsoft Word text editor or compatible editors (Times New Roman, type 12 and 1.5 spacing).

Articles must have:

- between 35,000 and 55,000 characters (including spaces);

- title, abstract and three keywords in Portuguese; title, abstract and three keywords in English;

- footnotes only for complementary information;

- References (Sources and Bibliography);

The abstract must not exceed 1000 characters (including spaces);

- bibliographic citations in the body of the text, notes and in the final bibliography must comply with ABNT standards (as presented below).

Short citation (up to 3 lines): Should be inserted in the text, between quotation marks.

Text transcriptions with more than three lines should be highlighted with a 4cm indent from the left margin, with font size 11, without quotation marks and with single spacing between lines.
