Naming people, things, and places carries great power, and not just because of the word itself, but because of the linguistics, social, historical, geographical, and cultural heft they carry. Based on this, this research provides an initial toponymic analysis of the names of neighborhoods in the city of Bragança-PA, based on qualitative bibliographical and documentary research, which focuses on studying the toponymic motivations behind the names of neighborhoods, along with the history, characteristics and motivations that led to their naming. Therefore, we used the theoretical contributions of Dick (1990), Sousa and Dargel (2017), Cavalcante, Santos and Santos (2018), Carvalhinhos and Santos (2021), and Carvalhinhos and Lima (2023), whose contributions to toponymy studies are significant; maps of the city made available by the city hall and the website of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE/BIGS); official documents of the city that deal with the history of the city; in addition to the study by Oliveira (2017) that deals with important events in the experiences of Bragança, which were relevant to this study.
