O LUSTRE AND A HORA DA ESTRELA:

THE BEGGINING OF THE FEMALE IDENTITY ON CLARICE LISPECTOR’S WORK

Abstract

Literature reaches the historical and cultural context distributed in works that favor the construction and delineate of other literary texts, besides that, it allows intertextual relations to happen through the production of meaning from a statement to other, a situation that allows interpretations of peculiar meanings to each reader. This work deals with a comparative analysis between the novels O Lustre (1946) and A hora da Estrela (1977). For this purpose, it performs a sociological analysis of the characters Virgínia and Macabea according to the patriarchal discourse and discusses the construction of female identity through the updating of the “nobody” complex in Clarice Lispector’s works. The bibliographic research is structured around these main theoretical themes: Comparative Literature and influence (NITRINI, 2015), comparativism (CARVALHAL, 2006), intertextuality (KRISTEVA, 2005), sociological analysis (CANDIDO, 2006) and (LIMA, 2002), Patriarchalism (SAFFIOTI, 2004), male dominance (BOURDIEU, 2002), “identity crisis” (HALL, 2011) and “nobody” (RIBEIRO, 1995). This work contributes to the formation of critical readers in order to improve their observations on how the feminine identity is evidenced in the works of Clarice Lispector. In addition, it is expected to contribute to the recognition of the relevance of literature for a critical-reflective reading in respect to social.
